When I Paint

Oh boy! This does look different. I have been playing with number eight. In each vertical rectangle is the #8. In February, we are going to be celebrating our 8th anniversary at the Tannery where I have my studio.

I pick it up with hopes of finding something new.

In 2010, I traveled to coastal SC to visit and of course I brought my paints. When I began, the tide was high and then the water disappeared. Nature made it better. I found this to be is an "okay" painting and I tucked it away in my unfinished pile until lately.

While on family vacation, it has been tradition that I paint every morning.

It is hard to get someone to pose in their bathing suit so I decided to just paint the suits. Soon after I set up and began, the grandchildren arrived and they wanted to paint too. I had brought some place mats .....I can always work on mine later.

Tennessee calls me every year. I tell her ..." Don't worry, I'm coming". This painting was begun in May 2010 near Monteagle. I keep my unfinished paintings in a big pile behind my easel and pull them out one by one. This was in my pile almost a year...time flies faster than me.

This was begun in March of 2008 and I just finished it. There was no hurry. Did you notice that the pretty pink dress is no longer there? The pink did not work no matter how much I wanted it (unless I changed many more colors). This may have taken me to 2015.

My good friend, Diana Dice and I wanted to show our favorite Wyoming artist, Amy Ringholz "the South" and selected Hartsville, SC. During Reno Fest, we painted the town.

I left the meeting in all kinds of trouble and wondered how I am going to pull this off. Since this was a linen canvas, and expensive, I knew I HAD to make it work.

During a March meeting of Kudzu Art Zone in Norcross, GA I needed some models for my demo. The members suggested I paint an intersection. Good! I had never done this before and am now excited. I asked, "What is at this intersection?" The first lady said, "a bus stop." I love it already and had her pose. Next came, a gas station, dog, cat, bus and convenience store. Whew!

Here I am during a two day plein air event in Buford,GA. I chose this house because of the columns and the fact I had a beautifully folded canvas in the back of my van. It was a match! Great fun!

Sail Away!

Why it began to look like sail boats on a breezy day so I went for it. I am so glad I am done as this black and white challenge made me want to get back to color all the more. Amen.

We are going to have a Black & White + One Show at the Tannery in May.
I have this beautifully folded canvas, pure white and I didn't want to mess it up. Finally I took the plunge and began.

Sabrina appeared!

Sabrina had the "lucky number" the day I had a painting demo at the Tannery. How did she ever sit so long in this pose? She amazes me every day!

It is always a surprise! Red Barn No. 6

It is always a surprise when I finish a painting. I turned a boring painting into an exciting painting. I am so happy! Now to paint the frame and then I will be all set for for our 6th Anniversary show at the Tannery in February. I have a feeling that I will try this method again.

A Little Closer

I believe you can now see the number 6 in each square. I like when paintings take a long time to do as it puts me in a tranquil world. Sometimes I am bummed out when a painting is done, as I had been having such a good time. It's like finishing a good book......ohhhh, how I wish it were longer.

We are having a 6th Anniversary Show at the Tannery Row Artist Colony, where I have my studio, and the theme is the number 6. I was going through my large pile of incompleted canvases for ideas and pulled this one out. I thought, "How can I make this boring painting exciting?" I decided to grid it off using a black magic marker and fill in each square with the appropriate color and then add a number 6. You can see where I began this process in the upper right. I think it looks cool and will show you the final painting soon.

Autumn of 2006, the beginnings of a painting

I had been wanting to paint this barn for years but there is no shade and the sun in Tennessee can be very hot. I finally lucked out as the skies were overcast, the farmer gave us permission and I had the whole afternoon ahead of me. What he didn't say was that he would be plowing the field next to us. I sucked it up and sneezed all night. Another fond memory made.

Beginning a painting

Decisions, decisions! Horizontal or vertical? What to a paint when there is so much information in front of me. I try and settle down and think what got me excited in the first place. Okay, it was converging waters and the force it created toward me. I put the transparent colors on first as that is when I have the most white to show them off. I was off and running. I hope to eventually show you the finished piece.

Plein Air at Sope Creek

It was the first event scheduled by our fearless leader, Don Maier, of the plein air web site, http://www.pleinair.ning.com/. After a .5 walk up and down rocks and streams, Sope Creek welcomed us with beautiful color and sounds.
